During the course of building your business you're probably going to run into quite a few answering machines when making your follow-up calls. It happens ...what to do? Some simply hang up and try again at a later time. Here's a few alternatives from a training excerpt by Motivated Mike Lemire...
(Training excerpt)
How many times do we call our leads and their is NO answer?
How many times do we call our leads and we get voicemail?
I don't know your exact numbers but I do know that sometimes this can be frustrating...but it's important to keep TRYING.
You never know when you will connect....
One suggestion I have is track when you call prospects. If you try them in the morning and they are not home...TRY them in the afternoon. If they are not home again, try one more time in the evening BEFORE you leave a message.
Here are my favorite messages to leave prospects...
The Curiosity Message (HIGH responses w/this message)
"Hi _________, this is ________ returning your call.
I will be in today until _________ and can be reached
at __________ I look forward to hearing from you again."
Hang UP
The BLUNT Message
"Hi ________, this _________ with ____________, and
I hope you have had some time to look at our website. We
have some exciting things to share with you about our unique
success system. Give me a call at ________ just as soon
as you can. Thanks!"
The FEAR of LOSS Message (Have some FUN)
"Hi, ________, this is _______ calling again, I'm sure
you have my number - if not - here it is _______, but the
reason I am calling is because we have some
INCREDIBLE .." (HANG UP)
OR use this:
"________, but I'm calling to let
you know that.." (HANG UP)
Another suggestion is to leave each prospect up to three messages. If they do not call back, keep them on and in any form of follow-up to include postcards, emails, auto responders, etc.
By the way...when it comes to FOLLOW-UP calls, we need to strategize when time allows productive activity.
The Golden Hours
My last suggestion is trying the time-frames below for PRODUCTIVE calls as I know you are busy too.
1. Any weekday after Dinner and Before 9:00pm (their time zone)
2. Every Saturday from 10am-1pm (their time zone)
3. Every Sunday after Dinner and Before 9:00pm (their time zone)
I hope this helps you in working your leads!
