Effective Email Marketing - Part Two
Here we're going to move into some tips which can start producing exciting results for your business - and enhance your overall email communication skills too!
Passive Marketing Through Sig Tags
A good "signature line" ...more commonly known by experienced Net users as "sig tag" ...can be a very effective prospecting tool. AND IT'S FREE! This one is sooooo simple to do - and remarkably powerful - yet, of all the emails that the author of this article receives, less than 20% use a signature file.
What it is? It's a small 2 to 3 line text statement, usually including a link to your website that goes on the bottom of all your outgoing emails. Here's an example of what one looks like in an email Jane sends to her sister Mary.
Hi Mary!
Hey, Mom wants us all to come over for dinner
on Thursday night. She said she couldn't reach
you by phone... give her a call, okay?
Love,
Your Sis,
Jane

For the purpose of illustration, the sig tag above is in blue italics. In the above example, the sender (Jane) has emphasized her sig tag by adding dashed lines above and below it.
Applying a catchy sig tag to emails you send to all your KNOWN contacts, can result in leads coming from sources you never even expected... Here's some FUN examples of sig tags that have been used extremely successfully by other online Network Marketers:
- I show housewives how to make more money part-time than their husbands do full time! http://MYSITE.simpleasabc.com
- I discovered the secret to having more money to spend. Don't tell anyone about this... http://MYSITE.simpleasabc.com
- Click here to see a picture of my boss' face when I told him I quit. http://MYSITE.simpleasabc.com (of course you'll need a picture on the web page you send them too :o)
- Wanna meet some new friends of mine? They're amazing! http://MYSITE.simpleasabc.com
Now, imagine how far your little sig tag will go the next time you forward on that cute joke or inspiring poem for your sister, aunt, brother, mother, father, cousin... and they pass it on, and their friends pass it on, and so on, and so on...
Remember - it's FREE - and you're NOT SELLING ANYTHING!
"Chunking" Your Email For Better Results
What in the heck is "chunking" anyway?? Yes, some of you may be asking that, and yet not be aware how important it is for all your email communications.
What is it? Chunking refers to breaking up your paragraphs and content to make it easier to read ...as well as draw attention to important content... There's nothing worse than receiving an email that looks something like this:

Now, that's MUCH better, isn't it? Keep it easy to read ...use extra spacing and/or dashes and/or dots to isolate or emphasize important information... and your emails will get read as well as produce results!
But there's one more important tip you need to know. Getting your emails read is one thing - it's even MORE important to get them OPENED by your recipients! And here's where our next tip comes in...
Seven Tips For Effective Email Headlines
With email, your SUBJECT line is your HEADLINE. Effective HEADLINES is a full course of study all itself. Sometimes changing one simple word in the subject line can produce MASSIVE increases in response rate. Master marketers and copywriters agonize over their headlines because they know IT'S THE MOST IMPORTANT PART IN ANY MARKETING...
Upgraded Simple As ABC Members receive an extremely handy FREE software tool called "Headline Creator Pro" (part of their 10 Exclusive Power Packs) which can be very useful for generating effective headlines - and subject lines - once you get used to using it.
In respect to emails, your SUBJECT line is your HEADLINE and that's why it's important we share a little time to go over it here. Here's a few tips:
One: whenever possible personalize your Subject line with your recipient's name - it will increase your chances of them seeing/opening it. Sometimes they may even send your important responses to their questions straight to the TRASH folder if their name is not in the subject line somewhere to draw their attention to it.
Two: when replying to requests for information, keep the original subject line intact. If the subject line doesn't already have their first name in it, you may want to add it like so: Hi John "Re: original subject line" ...or... Hi John, here's your answer to "Re: original subject line"
Three: don't "hype" your subject line ...chances are it will either be blocked by spam filters and/or be sent right to the trash bin. (More about spam filters in Part 3)
Four: questions work! Sometimes just wording your subject line in the form of a question can increase open/response rates by as much as 250% (believe it - I've tested this and seen it for myself).
Five: short vs. long ... the jury is out on this one. Some gurus say short headlines sizzle. Others say it doesn't matter whether your headline is long or short - as long as it produces the desired action, which in this case is to have your email opened, right? The tip for you is, if you're using longer headlines, and personalizing, put the recipient's name near the beginning of your subject line - not the end. Some email clients "chop" longer subject lines and it's important to have their name show up. (reference One above)
Six: Avoid spammy terms - or else guaranteed the filters will block you. Here's a few terms you want to avoid at all costs -- "work at home" ... "home business" ... "free" ... there's many more. (More about spam filters in Part 3)
Seven: NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER send out any emails with ALLCAPS in the subject line. I know... this one is obvious ...but sheesh! It really had to be mentioned because some people just don't know or realize that - ALLCAPS is the equivalent to SHOUTING in online communications - and is something to be avoided. Also, just so you know SpamAssassin (as well as other filters out there) will stomp all over your messages if they contain too many ALLCAPS in the subject line and/or body of your messages.
Okay... that was a lot of information packed into one page... and yet, there's more! Let's move on to "Effective Email Part Three" and get through this. It really IS the most IMPORTANT skill you need to develop for online marketing. It's all worth learning, and applying...
